Zonte’s Footstep ‘Baron Von Nemesis’ Barossa Valley Shiraz 2012

Syrah from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 09-Jun-2015
Zonte’s Footstep represents generations of growers who have never made a Shiraz from the Barossa. This wine is their ‘nemesis’. This is the fourth bottling of ‘Baron Von Nemesis’ 100% Barossa Valley Shiraz from a site between Williamstown and Lyndoch, fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in new and seasoned oak hogsheads. Full, very dark, near impenetrable black-hued ruby-red with some purple. The bouquet is full, soft and broad in volume, with good depth of ripe dark red and black berried fruits, entwined with savoury secondary complexities of earth, game and cedar. Herbal and eucalypt detail unfolds with aeration. Full-bodied, soft and well-packed flavours of ripe, savoury dark berry and plum fruit flavours form a good core melded with cedary, nutty oak. The sweet fruit is supported by grainy tannin grip, and along with soft acidity lends a dense, textured palate line that carries the wine to a long, lingering finish of plums, earth, spices and cedar. This is a full, p[icy, cedary plummy Shiraz with plenty of extraction and structure. Serve with slow-cooked game meat and lamb shanks over the next 6-8+ years. 18.0+/20 Jun 2015 RRP $24.99
