Yves Cuilleron ‘Terres Sombre’ Cote-Rotie 2009

Syrah from France - Rhone
Review Date : 27-May-2012
100% Syrah from the ‘Rochains' ‘Vialliere' and ‘Rozier' sites north of Ampuis, the wine aged 18 months in barriques. Very full, dense, impenetrable black-red with purple hues, this has a massive and voluminous nose with beautifully lifted and vibrant black fruits and dark spices with subtle perfumes and distinctive oak toast, spice and shine. Layers of sweet and ripe fruit nuances unfold. Full-bodied, this combines great richness and concentration, the flavours revealing an array of black fruits interwoven with earth and florals as well as plenty of oak. While highly extracted and structured, the sweetness of the fruit ameliorates the grip and the mouthfeel is fine in texture and luscious with it. Freshness and good acid tension is present and shows on the long, sustained finish. This needs some time to come together and harmonise, but it will reveal even greater richness and complexity over the next 20 years.  19.5+/20  May 2012  RRP $140.00
