Yves Cuilleron Condrieu ‘Vertige’ 2008

Viognier from France - Rhone
Review Date : 10-Mar-2011
100% Viognier from a single parcel, fermented to 13.0% alc., then aged 18 months in barriques. The wine is named after the steep landscape. Bright straw-yellow colour with a pale edge, this has a very powerful nose with fabulous, exotic fruits somewhat dominated by the oak. The fatness and density of aromatics is stunning. Dry on palate, this is very oily in texture, lush, fat and quite open in style. However the expression of fruit carries some sourness and herbal nuances, along with some reduction and powerful oak. Rather blowsy and with some less than positive attributes, there is no denying the opulent aspirations, and attempt to make a ‘statement wine'. This will always remain rather disjointed, but will amaze tasters with its richness and breadth.  Mar 2011
