Yealands Estate ‘Winemaker’s Reserve’ Gibbston Central Otago Pinot Noir 2013

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 09-Apr-2015
Full, very dark, deep, black-red colour with garnet hues on edge. This has a concentrated and deeply packed bouquet of black cherry and black berry fruits entwined with herb leaf and stalk notes, along with complexing savoury minerals, liquorice, ink and pepper. The aromatics have a pervading richness. Medium-bodied and elegantly proportioned, the flavours of black cherry fruit and herbs are tightly bound and concentrated, unfolding layers of stalk, leaf, minerals and toasty oak detail. The mouthfeel has sweetness and juiciness, and the wine follows a firm tannin line that carries the densely packed black fruit and herb flavours to a moderately long finish. This is an elegant, tightly concentrated and firmly guided Pinot Noir with sweet black fruits complexed by herbal flavours. Match with barbecued and grilled, herb-marinated lamb, beef and venison dishes over the next 5-6 years. 75% clone 777 and 25% clone 5 from the ‘Holtzmann’ vineyard on the upper bench of Gibbston Valley, given a cold soak and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 30% new French oak barriques. 17.5-/20 Apr 2015 RRP $39.95
