Yealands Estate ‘Single Vineyard’ Awatere Valley Marlborough Pinot Noir 2015

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 01-Oct-2016
Dark, deep ruby-red colour with purple hues, lighter on the rim, and youthful in appearance. This has a fresh, firm and finely presented nose with aromas of ripe dark-red berry and cherry fruit melded harmoniously with notes of dark herbs and subtle spice notes, lifted by violet florals. Medium-bodied and elegantly proportioned, the palate has a firm core of dark-red and black cherry fruit entwined with dark herbs, some liquorice, spices and violet florals. The fruit sweetness is balanced by fine-grained tannin extraction, and the mouthfeel has a soft vigour, with integrated acidity and some underlying alcoholic power. This has linearity and the wine carries to a concentrated, lingering finish of black cherry fruit intermixed with herbs and florals. This is an elegantly proportion Pinot Noir with sweet black and red cherry fruit with a firm and fine-grained core and line. Match with pork, beef, lamb and venison over the next 5 years. Dijon clone fruit from the upper ridge of the ‘Seaview’ vineyard, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 20% new French oak barriques. 18.0-/20 Oct 2016 RRP $26.95
