Yealands Estate ‘Single Block”R6′ Awatere Valley Marlborough Pinot Gris 2012

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 18-Feb-2013
Bright, even straw-yellow colour, paler on edge. The nose is subtle with fresh aromas of ripe white stonefruits and a delicate interplay of honeysuckle and minerals, clearly youthful, but with good presence. Dry to taste, this is elegant and restrained with fine and pure flavours of stonefruits and some flinty lees work. The mouthfeel is soft with very refined textures, and the flavours flow smoothly and effortlessly. There is an underlying body and drive from the alcohol, but with good tension from the balanced acidity which provides some crispness. There is good drive which carries the subtle fruit and flinty flavours to a sustained finish. This is an elegant and pure, dry Pinot Gris with soft, crisp and flowing flavours. Serve with first courses over the next 3-4 years. Fruit from the ‘R6' block from the ‘Seaview' vineyard, furthest from the ocean on loess, hand-picked and WBP, fermented with 4% in old French barriques to 14.0% alc. and 4 g/L rs, the wine aged on lees. 17.5-/20 Feb 2013 RRP $24.95
