Full, dark, deep ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues. The nose is packed with aromas of dark red berry fruit, plums liquorice and thyme herbs, revealing oak spice and cedar elements. Medium-full bodied, bright, up-front and intense flavours of dark berry fruit, plums and liquorice are complexed by layers of spices and oak cedar nuances. The fruit is tight and well-concentrated, and powerfully driven with fine, grainy tannins forming a firmly structured palate line. Balanced acidity contributes tension and the palate leads to a dry, nutty and long finish. This is a dark fruited and spicy Pinot Noir with concentration and texture and excellent drive. Serve with beef, lamb and hard cheeses over the next 6-7 years. 75% clone 777 and 25% clone 5, from the ‘Holtzman' vineyard in Gibbston, hand-picked and given a cold soak, and fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 10-11 months in 25% new French oak barriques. 18.0+/20 Feb 2013 RRP $N/A
