Yealands Estate Awatere Valley Marlborough Gewurztraminer 2011

Gewurztraminer from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 18-Feb-2013
Bright dtraw-yellow colour with some golden hints, lighter on rim. The bouquet is elegant and refined with very attractive, lifted perfumes of rose petals, musk and honey. Off-dry to taste, restrained, but positive flavours of rose petal florals combine with musk and minerals to form a fresh, clean and crisp mouthfeel with a teasing sweetness and lusciousness. The acidity is soft and in good balance, and some alcohol drive adds to the palate line. Faint nuances of secondary interest emerge, showing a little creaming soda, herb and hair oil complexity. The flavours lead to a light, lingering finish with a good balance of classical varietal bitterness and musky lusciousness. This is a fine-featured off-dry Gewurztraminer just beginning to show suggestions of secondary interest. Match with subtle Middle Eastern and Asian cuisine over the next 3+ years. Fruit from one block on the ‘Seaview' vineyard fermented in stainless-steel to 14.0% alc. and 10 g/L rs. 17.5/20 Feb 2013 RRP $21.95
