Named after Sir Robert Menzies, this is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from ‘The Menzies' vineyard, fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 22 months in 46% new French oak, with some seasoned American oak barrels used. Very full, deep, intense black-red in colour, this has a full, packed nose of blackcurrants, dark red berry fruits with complex, earthy, secondary aromas, revealing nuances of savoury game, cedar and undergrowth. On palate, the wine is rich, dense and concentrated with attractive layers of sweet, dark berry fruits, ripe blackberries, oak cedar and exotic spiced plums. Rich and smooth in texture, the tannins are beginning to resolve and integrate with the fruit, but there is still a good, rounded core and line through the length of the wine. The wine finishes with spicy, earthy secondary nuances. Drink over the next 7-10 years with fine beef, lamb and venison dishes. 19.0-/20 Jul 2011 RRP $55.00
