Yalumba ‘The Cigar’ Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Cabernet Sauvignon from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 27-Jul-2011
Bright, deep, purple-hued red with some depth to the colour. This has a fresh, elegant, but intense nose of varietal Cabernet Sauvignon blackcurrant, cassis and mint aromas, quite pure and with very subtle oaking. Medium-full bodied, this has a concentrated palate of luscious and sweetly expressed blackcurrant essence, mint and fresh herbs, supported by firm and finely-extracted tannins that provide structure and a drying grip. A little alcohol is noticeable, along with good acidity for tension. In all, this is a balanced and classical Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon that will match herb-rubbed, roasted lamb over the next 5-7 years. Named after the cigar-shaped strip of terra rossa soil in Coonawarra. All Cabernet Sauvignon from ‘The Menzies' vineyard fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged in mainly French oak, 14% new. 18.0+/20 Jul 2011 RRP $32.00
