Yalumba ‘Patchwork’ Barossa Shiraz 2008

Syrah from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 27-Jul-2011
A ‘patchwork quilt' of vineyard sites in the Barossa contribute fruit for this wine. Fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 6 months in 15% new American and French oak barrels of various capacities. Very dark, deep, full black-red colour, this is a little shy on bouquet, but there are aromas of ripe black berry and black pepper, liquorice and sweet oak, quite concentrated and with depth. An elegantly proportioned wine, this has attractively ripe and sweet black fruit and black pepper flavours framed in a fine, grainy-textured palate, the tannins fine and supple. While there is some alcohol warmth, good acidity underlines the palate and provides a lively finish. Drink over the next 5-7 years with grilled and roasted red meat dishes and firm cheeses. 18.0/20 Jul 2011 RRP $25.00
