Yalumba ‘Patchwork’ Barossa Shiraz 2005

Syrah from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 29-Jun-2012
Barossa Valley fruit, the wine aged 18 months in oak, 15% new French and American hogsheads and 10% in American octaves. Dark, deep, black-red, still youthful in appearance. This has a very full, ripe and aromatic nose of dark raspberry fruit, still primary in expression, with good oak lift. Medium-full bodied, there is a core of sumptuously juicy ripe dark raspberry and black pepper fruit flavours prominent on palate. Though dense and weighty, the fruit is harmoniously supported by fine, supple tannins all integrated and smooth in mouthfeel. Nothing is out of place or excessive and the sheer drinkability and seamlessness is a highlight. This will continue to please over the next 4-6+ years I saw this as very Grenache like! 18.5/20  Jun 2012
