Yalumba Barossa Shiraz 2012

Syrah from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 21-May-2014
Dark, deep ruby-red colour with black hues. The nose is firm and intense with ripe black berry fruit aromas, along with earth and tar notes, revealing black pepper and some dusty oak. Dryish to taste, ripe and concentrated fruit flavours of earthy black fruits, liquorice, pepper and tarry notes are enhanced by some sweetness. The mouthfeel is firm with grainy dry tannins underlining the fruit and balancing the sweetness. Lively acidity provides good energy and carries the palate to a firmly-packed dense finish of black fruits, spices. This is a firmly packed and grainy, gutsy Shiraz with earthy black fruit flavours. Match with barbecued and roasted red meats, and semi-hard cheeses over the next 4+ years. Barossa fruit fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 8 months in seasoned American, French and Hungarian oak hogsheads. 16.5+/20 May 2014 RRP $15.99
