XYZIN California Old Vine Zinfandel 2013

Zinfandel from USA
Review Date : 19-Sep-2016
Even ruby-red colour with slight garnet hues on the rim, lighter edged. This has a firm and tightly bound bouquet with intense aromas of dark-red berry fruits entwined with nutty elements and a little minerally reduction. Medium-full bodied, the fruit flavours of dark red berries and plums are gently sweet and luscious, and are melded with cedary oak and nuances of minerally reduction. The palate is elegantly proportioned, with the fruit supported by soft, supple tannins and integrated acidity. The wine flows with good energy, carrying to a moderately sustained, sweet, red-fruited finish with nuances of eucalypt and oak cedar. This is a gently rich, red-fruited Zinfandel with eucalypt and cedar detail on a supple palate. Serve with pizza and barbecued fare over the next 2-3 years. Zinfandel fruit with Carignan, Alicante Bouschet and Petite Syrah from sites in the Dry Creek, Russian River and Alexander Valleys, and Lake County vineyards fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 15 months in French and American oak. 15.5+/20 Sep 2016 RRP $15.99
