X Wines ‘little x’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2014

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 06-Dec-2018
Dark, even, ruby-red colour with some depth and light purple hues on the edge. The nose is elegantly proportioned with restrained but positive aromas of blackberry fruit entwined with subtle notes of dark raspberries, unfolding white and black pepper along with dark-red florals. The peppery notes intensify with aeration. Medium-bodied, the palate has sweet and moderately rich flavours of dark raspberries and blackberry fruits along with dark herbs entwined with pepper and some floral lift. The fruit sweetness is underlined by light, fine-grained tannin extraction and soft, background acidity lending vibrancy. This has good linearity and carries to a lingering, spicy finish. This is a sweet and gently rich fruited Syrah with dark raspberry, blackberry and peppery flavours on a fine, grainy palate with some vibrancy. Match with lam and beef, and with Middle Eastern fare over the next 3+ years. Hand-picked MS clone fruit from a single site on Ohiti Road, vines 10 y.o., fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged in tank with staves with 15% new oak equivalence, and with 20% of the wine aged in seasoned barrels, the maturation for 14 months. 17.0+/20 Dec 2018 RRP $19.95
