Wynns ‘Michael’ Coonawarra Shiraz 1998

Syrah from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 29-Jun-2012
Flagship Shiraz for Wynns from Coonawarra fruit, the wine aged in new and 1 y.o. American oak and seasoned French oak. Very full, black-red colour, this has a very powerful, concentrated and dense nose of very ripe blackberry fruit with layers of pepper, spices, mint and eucalypt, the oaking bold. Full-bodied, ripe, sweet and concentrated black fruits show with depth and plumpness. Black ink and liquorice flavours emerge. The palate is supported by very fine-grained tannins and excellent acidity, providing a near sinewy finesse and suggestion of elegance to the structure. This has the potential to age another 10-12+ years. 19.0-/20  Jun 2012
