Wynns Coonawarra Hermitage 1960

Syrah from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 30-Aug-2012
Rather faded garnet red with a pale edge. The bouquet is very soft, delicate, fragrant and lifted, a touch volatile, somewhat cool, with dried herb and currant-like aromas with savoury tertiary development. Light to medium weighted, bright herbal flavours, a little stalky and curranty in expression show, the acidity a feature. The tannins well-resolved now, but the palate firm from the acidity and slight leanness. Despite the coolness, this has fragrance and appeal. This could be Cabernet Sauvignon! Passed its best, but it won't deteriorate much. The 1960s was a period when Wynns attempted to raise the ripeness of the fruit. There were VA issues with some of the wines. 17.0/20 Aug 2012
