Wynns ‘Black Label’ Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 1968

Cabernet Sauvignon from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 30-Aug-2012
Fullish, even, moderately deep garnet red colour. Initially a little shy on nose, quite tight, but with a core of dark, red berry fruit still, and marked by oak resin. Unfolding to reveal sweet, reasonably well-ripened fruit. Medium-bodied, this is soft textured with building richness of sweet, red berry fruit allied to spices and cedarwood. Low tannin textures, quite fine and soft, with balanced acidity. This became richer and sweeter, with a density and weight, but quite softened out and very mellow in the final analysis. I enjoyed this more than the other tasters. The Wynns tasting notes suggest this was interesting and forward, but now dull and well past its best. 18.5+/20 Aug 2012
