Wrights ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2013

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 18-Jun-2014
Hand-picked fruit from the ‘Triple Terrace’ vineyards, off Kemblefield Road, Hawke’s Bay, trucked to Gisborne, given a cold soak indigenous yeast fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 9 months in seasoned oak. Full, impenetrable black-red colour with some youthful purple hues on rim. The bouquet is full, solid and densely concentrated with aromas of ripe black berry and black plum fruit, entwined with earth and ink, and liquorice spice nuances. Medium-full bodied, softly concentrated and densely deep fruit flavours of sweet, ripe, black berries and plums intermingle with liquorice, tar, black ink and minerals, and are complexed by spice and peppery elements. The rich fruit is balanced by significant extraction, the tannins soft and near powdery. Low acidity adds to the rounded mouthfeel, and the palate carries through to a rich, densely packed, lingering finish of sweet black fruits. This is a soft, densely concentrated, black-fruited Syrah with plenty of structure. Serve with venison and slow-cooked game meat over the next 6-8+ years. Certified AsureQuality organic. 18.0/20 Jun 2014 RRP $38.00
