Wrights ‘Reserve’ Gisborne Chardonnay 2015

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Gisborn
Review Date : 23-Nov-2016
Bright straw yellow colour with pale green-gold hues, lighter on the rim. This has a firmly concentrated and very powerful and intense nose of white stonefruits entwined with gunflinty lees and complex minerally sulphide reduction notes, along with smoky and toasty oak elements, revealing a hint of earthiness. Full-bodied, the palate has a tightly concentrated core with rich white stonefruit flavours layered with flinty lees, minerals and earth, and nuances of spicy, toasty oak. The flavours show stylish restraint and is underlined by a little alcohol power providing drive and linearity. The mouthfeel is fine textured with a little phenolic grip, the acidity lending freshness to the firmness. The structure, power and acidity carry the fruit and oak flavours to a lingering, rounded finish. This is a firm and concentrated, rich Chardonnay with complex stonefruit and powerful gunflint flavours along with toasty oak and underlying alcoholic power and acid energy. Match with roasted pork over the next 4+ years. Mendoza clone Chardonnay from the ‘Ormond Valley’ vineyard, fully barrel-fermented to 15.0% alc., the wine aged 11 months in new oak, the wine undergoing 2 months batonnge and full MLF Certified Asurequality organic. 18.0+/20 Nov 2016 RRP $35.00
