Woollaston Nelson Pinot Noir 2012

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 16-Dec-2014
Dark ruby-red colour with some youthful purple hues, lighter edged. This has a fresh, deep nose of ripe, dark red berry and cherry fruit interwoven with complexing savoury herb whole bunch aromas. Dark plum, earth and violet floral elements unfold and add interest, and meld harmoniously forming a complete bouquet. Medium-bodied, fresh, sweet black and red berry and cherry fruit flavours are entwined with whole bunch savoury herbs, Asian spices forming a complex, layered palate. The sweetness and juiciness of the fruit is enhanced by lacy acidity and supported by firm, fine-grained tannin structure. The mouthfeel grows in weight and vigour, with the firm core carrying the wine to a sustained, dry-textured, savoury black-fruited finish. This is a harmonious and well-structured black-fruited Pinot Noir with subtle, complexing savoury herb nuances. Match with beef, lamb and venison over the next 5-6+ years. Hand-picked fruit from the ‘Mahana’ vineyard, given an ambient soak and indigenous yeast fermented with 20% whole bunches to 13.5% alc., the wine on skins 32 days and aged 18 months in 20% new French oak. Certified BioGro organic. 18.5/20 Dec 2014 RRP $39.00
