Wooing Tree Sandstorm Reserve Pinot Noir 2018, Central Otago

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Central Otago & Waitaki
Review Date : 25-Jun-2021
Deep ruby-red with moderate good transparency, slightly lighter on edge. The bouquet is full, with alcohol power, penetrating a complex range of herbs and gamey aromas, dark cherries, blackberries and an amalgam of spices. Medium-full bodied, flavours are expressed with power, aromas of dark cherries and blackberries elevated by plums and spices, subtle gamey development unfold, along with dark herbs. Lacy acidity integrated with fine-grained tannin extraction, silky yet firm. The fruit is generous and ripe, holding up with barrel spices effortlessly. This is a fuller style Pinot Noir with power and generous fruit and spice, gamey development on its way to being more prominent. Match this with lamb ribs and venison over the next 5+ years. Handpicked, single vineyard from the Wooing Tree site, clone 115. Handpicked, cold-soaked, hand plunged 3 times a day during peak fermentation, 15% whole cluster, aged in French oak for 13 months, 33% new oak. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) June 2021 RRP $85
