Wooing Tree ‘Sandstorm Reserve’ Central Otago Pinot Noir 2010

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 21-Sep-2012
Pinot Noir fruit, clones 777, 667 and 6 from the ‘Wooing Tree' vineyard, hand-picked, given a cold soak and fermented with 10% whole bunches to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 16 months in 34% new French oak barrels. Bright ruby-red colour with good depth, a little lighter on rim. The bouquet is softly full and ethereal with aromas of dark cherry and berry fruit unfolding layers of spices, liquorice and nuances of cedar and dried herbs. Medium-full bodied, soft and expansive flavours of dark red fruits are harmoniously integrated with oak spices, earth, cedar and undergrowth. This is complex and subtle in expression and the wine has mouthfilling presence. The fruit richness is underscored by significant, fine-grained extraction which carries the flavour nuances to a very long, lingering finish featuring spices and dark fruits. This is a seriously constructed Pinot Noir with flowing harmony and complexity from extra time in barrel. Serve with slow-cooked game meat over the next 6-9 years. 230 dozen made. 18.5/20 Sep 2012 RRP $85.00
