Wooing Tree Central Otago Pinot Noir 2010

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 04-Feb-2014
Very dark ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues, bright and vibrant in appearance. The nose is initially tightly constrained, with bright dark red cherry and berry fruit aromas, along with minerally overtones and a little resinous oak. In the glass, an array of fresh, bright dark red berry fruits and florals unfold from the core. Medium-full bodied, tightly concentrated, bright and fresh, dark cherry fruits lie at the heart of the palate. There is succulence and fine aromatic lift, and the fruit is underlined by very fine-grained tannin extract. Soft, poised acidity adds to the energy, and the fruit unfolds more richness as it is carried to the long, sustained finish. This is a beautifully refined and structured wine that will reveal more over the next 6-8 years. 18.5+/20 Jan 2014 Full, dark, deep, ruby-red with purple hues, this has a very tightly bound nose, concentrated with fine, firm aromas of black cherries, black-red florals, thyme herbs and minerals. Nuances of liquorice, subtle charry reduction and spices add interest and detail. Medium-full bodied, the palate is elegant in proportion, with penetrating and intense flavours of black cherries and oak spices. A concentrated core is driven with fine-grained tannins and elevated acidity and the flavours flow with linearity to a very long, sustained finish with black berry fruits and spice nuances. This is an elegant, near sleek and racy Pinot Noir with the concentration and clarity to develop over the next 5-7+ years. Serve with roast duck. Pinot Noir clones 115, 777, 667, 6 and 5 from the ‘Wooing Tree' vineyard, hand-picked, given a cold soak and fermented with a small portion of whole bunches to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 34% new French oak. 18.0+/20 Sep 2012 RRP $46.00
