Woods Crampton Eden Valley Shiraz 2012

Syrah from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 04-Jun-2014
100% Shiraz from the ‘Bartsch’, ‘Batton’ and ‘Felker’ vineyards, vines 50-70 y.o., hand-picked and given a cold soak, cool-fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 18 months in new and seasoned 300 L French oak. Full, saturated black-red colour with slight purple hues on edge. This has a very full, densely concentrated nose with a deep core of ripe black berry fruits, plum essence, liquorice and aromatic spices, entwined with complexing cedar, earth, and nutty elements. Full-bodied and densely concentrated, the mouthfeel is packed with sweet and lusciously rich flavours of black berry fruits, plums and black pepper, lifted with spicy oak and floral elements. The fruit is balanced by fine-grained tannin extraction, forming a harmonious core with lacy underlying acidity that provides tension and energy to the palate line. The wine flows to a long, juicy and sustained finish with pepper, spices and liquorice notes. This is a softly concentrated, balanced and integrated, lusciously ripe Shiraz. Serve with casseroles and slow-cooked red meats over the next 5+ years. 365 cases made. 18.5/20 Jun 2014 RRP $31.99
