Wise Owl ‘Ruffled’ Merlot 2013

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 24-Jun-2014
Very dark, deep, impenetrable black-red with youthful purple hues on rim. The nose is bright and fresh with deep and intense aromas of ripe black plum, blackberry, blueberry and blackcurrant fruit, quite primary in expression with an underlying herbal edge that adds lift. Medium-bodied, lively flavours of blackberries, currants and herbs are lifted by crisp and zesty acidity. The mouthfeel is racy and mouthwatering with the fruit sweetness balancing the acid tension. Fine, grainy tannins support the palate line, providing dry textures on the black-fruited finish. This is a medium-bodied, bright, black berried and curranty fruited Merlot with fresh acidity and dry textures. Serve with pizza, pastas and barbecued red meats over the next 2-3 years. Hawke’s Bay fruit fermented to 13.5% alc. 16.5-/20 Jun 2014 RRP $12.95
