Wirra Wirra ‘Church Block’ McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz/Merlot 2012

Cabernet Sauvignon from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 09-Jul-2014
49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Shiraz and 16% Merlot, fermented to 14.5% alc, the wine aged 18 months in 70% French and 30% American oak, of which 10% was new. Very full, impenetrable black-red colour with garnet hues on edge. The bouquet is elegant and softly concentrated with a gently aromatic, focussed core of blackcurrant fruit with nuances of mint, spicy herbs and dark plums. Medium-full bodied, rounded, but concentrated flavours of ripe blackcurrant fruit are lifted by nuances of mint, earth and spiced plums. The fruit is supported by soft, supple tannins that balance the sweetness, providing positive drive and line. Discreet acidity adds a little lift and poise, and adds to the linearity, the wine carrying through to a sustained, black-fruited finish. This is a soft-textured, blackcurranty Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend with some depth. Match with roasted lamb, beef or venison over the next 4-5+ years. 17.5/20 Jul 2014 RRP $25.99
