Willunga 100 ‘The Tithing’ McLaren Vale 2010

Grenache from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 25-Apr-2013
‘Tithing’ refers to 10 people, a smaller unit within a ‘Hundred’ and represents the selection of smaller and superior lots of fruit. 100% old vine Grenache from the McLaren Vale, fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged in seasoned and new French oak hogsheads for 9 months. Darkih ruby-red colour with purple hues, lighter on edge. The bouquet is full and voluminous with eathereal aromas of ripe raspberries infused with herbs and a delicate earthy, savoury interest that is more in line with the Rhone than Australia. Full-bodied, rich, ripe, sweetly luscious flavours of soft red berry fruits, red liquorice and dark herbs are supported by supple, but driven tannins. The acidity is bright, and along with some alcoholic power brings layers of dimension to the mouthfeel. The palate has concentration, with more to unfold, but the softness enables approachability. This is a rich, sweet and layered Grenache that will develop well over the next 6-8 years. 18.5+/20 Apr 2013 RRP $45.00
