Willunga 100 McLaren Vale Shiraz/Viognier 2014

Syrah from Australia - South Australia
Review Date : 10-Aug-2016
Full, very dark ruby-red colour with black hues and a little purple on the rim. This has a gently full and voluminous nose with soft depth and intensity of ripe blackberry and dark raspberry fruit, integrated with subtle aromatic dark red floral elements, spices and a suggestion of eucalypt. Medium-full bodied, the palate possesses a rich core of sweetly ripe black berried fruits intermixed with spice and floral notes. The palate is well-structured with fine, grainy tannin extraction that lends a dry texture. The acidity is integrated, allowing the structure to show. The fruit sweetness emerges unfolding floral, spice and pepper elements on a long, grainy finish. This is a moderately rich, black-fruited Shiraz/Viognier with floral and spice lift and a grainy, textural palate. Match with Middle Eastern lamb dishes over the next 5-6 years. A blend of 95% Shiraz and 5% Viognier, the Shiraz from the ‘Mary Gordon’ and ‘Hillside’ vineyards, co-fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged in tank, and new and seasoned French oak for 9-18 months. 17.5/20 Aug 2016 RRP $29.99
