William Murdoch ‘The Guardsman’ Hawke’s Bay 2010

Cabernet Sauvignon from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 27-May-2012
A blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot and 3% Malbec, aged 19 months in 55% new French oak. This is made from fruit from superior selected parcels and from the best lots of wine. Impenetrable black-red in colour. The nose is full and densely packed with ripe black berry and black plum aromas, unfolding layers of interest with iron-earth and spicy oak, all forming a complete expression. Full-bodied, mouth filling waves of ripe and rich dark fruits are interwoven with earthy, oaky complexities, all framed in a serious structure. The tannins are fully ripened, being fine and supple, and the acidity lies in the background, sufficient for freshness and energy. Everything is in place and the wine has a brooding harmony. It will evolve well over the next 15 years. 19.0+/20 May 2012
