William Murdoch Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2010

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 27-May-2012
100% Syrah aged 12 months in 30% new French oak. Bright purple-hued ruby-red colour, this has tightly constrained and elegant aromas of black berry fruits with black pepper, violet and bacon-like nuances that gradually unfold with fragrance. Medium-full bodied, this is elegantly proportioned and right down the line with classical cool-climate Syrah fruit flavours. Black berries, black pepper, spices, the oak very well in check. The smooth tannins and textures build to provide a firm line and backbone, but good acidity enlivens the mouthfeel, carrying through to a very long spicy, peppery finish. This is an aromatic, elegant and lively Syrah with classical purity of fruit, but the extract to see 7-9 years of cellaring. 18.0+/20 May 2012
