William Murdoch Hawke’s Bay Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc 2010

Cabernet Sauvignon from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 27-May-2012
A blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec and 5% Merlot, aged 19 months in 50% new French oak. Full, black-purple colour, this has a powerful and intense, pure nose of blackcurrant fruit with a touch of mintiness. This is classic cool-climate Cabernet Saivignon varietal character, just a little slender on the nose. Full-bodied, this is beautifully clear with cooler-spectrum blackcurrant fruit, the cassis notes carrying a succulence and sweetness. Here, the fruit richness matches the very fine and serious extraction to provide an elegantly focussed and driven palate. The acidity is taut, but in excellent balance. The finish is long and sustained. A textbook varietal expression of Cabernet Sauvignon that will keep 10 years. 18.5/20 May 2012
