Wild River Waipara Valley Tempranillo 2016

Tempranillo from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 25-Jan-2017
Dark ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues, lighter on the rim. This has a fresh and elegantly presented nose of red berry and cherry fruit entwined with fresh, dark herbal notes. The fruit is primary in expression, unfolding fragrant redcurrant notes and subtle hints of plums. Medium-bodied, the palate has sweet flavours of dark-red cherry and berry fruit melded with a layer of herbs, with redcurrant and red liquorice elements. The mouthfeel is bright with fresh acidity enlivening the fruit, providing energy and zest. The tannins are light, lending a subtle line, the wine leading to a light finish of cherries and herbs. This is a bright and fresh Tempranillo with cherry, berry, herb and redcurrant flavours on a light-structured palate. Match with antipasto, tapas and Mediterranean fare over the next 2-3 years. Fruit from the ‘Limeloader’ vineyard, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 6 months in seasoned French oak. 200 cases made. 16.5-/20 Jan 2017 RRP $17.99
