Wild River Waipara Valley Pinot Noir 2011

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 14-Mar-2012
Wild River is a label for Mount Brown in the Waipara Valley. Made from Davis and Dijon clone fruit planted in 2002, the grapes were destemmed and given a cold soak, then fermented to 13.5% alc. The wine spent 10 days on skins before maturation in seasoned French oak barriques. Matt Deller of the Fine Wine Delivery Co. was involved with the blending. Moderately dark ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues, the aromas of fresh wild raspberries feature on bouquet with good depth and some concentration. Some fresh dark herbs and confectionary nuances add interest. Medium-bodied, this is rich and juicy with dark raspberry fruit flavours, up-front and uncomplicated in expression. The wine is modest in extraction, giving a light tannin grip, and the bright acidity adds freshness to the fruit. Confected raspberry flavours are carried to the fine, dry finish. Match this up-front and fruity Pinot Noir with pizza, pasta and poultry over the next 3-4 years. 17.0+/20 Mar 2012 RRP $16.99
