Wild Earth ‘Earth and Sky’ Central Otago Pinot Noir 2012

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 10-Jan-2017
Even ruby-red colour with garnet hues, lighter on the rim. This has a fulsome, solid and deeply packed bouquet with a complex amalgam of savoury ripe red berry fruits entwined with subtle layers of dried thyme herbs, undergrowth, mushrooms, earth and cedar. Full-bodied, the palate is fulsome and rich with mouthfilling flavours of savoury dark-red berry fruit harmoniously melded with dried herbs, undergrowth and game notes, along with nuances of earth, mushrooms and cedar. The fruit sweetness is balanced by fine-grained tannin structure, with integrated acidity lending drive and tension. The fruit is carried to a long, complex, savoury-flavoured finish of berry fruits, dried herbs and game. This is a rich, complex, sweet-fruited Pinot Noir with savoury red berries, dried herbs and undergrowth flavours on a balanced, structured palate with underlying energy. Match with casseroles and slow-cooked game meat dishes over the next 6-8+ years. Hand-picked fruit from Bannockburn, clones 777 and 10/5, destemmed and fermented to 14.3% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 40% new French oak barriques, followed by a further 8 months in seasoned oak. 19.0-/20 Jan 2017 RRP $65.00
