Wild Earth Central Otago Pinot Noir 2010

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 07-Mar-2016
Full, very dark, deep ruby-red colour with light garnet hues. The nose is firmly concentrated with aromas of ripe, black berry and dark-red cherry fruit along with black plum, liquorice and dark herb notes. Complex savoury undergrowth and sour cherry nuances unfold to add detail. The aromatics show with depth and considerable power. Medium-full bodied, full, ripe and lusciously sweet flavours of black berry and cherry fruit are complexed by layers of plums, liquorice and dark herbs, along with secondary undergrowth notes. The fruit is supported by fine-grained, but substantial tannin extraction providing structure and flowery grip. Fine acidity lends tension and balance, and the wine leads to a full, open and powerful finish. This is a fulsome, ripe, black-fruited Pinot Noir with plenty of structure, power and energy. Match with lamb, beef, venison and hard cheeses over the next 6-8 years. Fruit predominantly destemmed, and fermented to 13.8% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 25% new French oak. Winemaker: Steve Davies. 18.5+/20 Mar 2016 RRP $55.00
