Whitehaven Marlborough Pinot Noir 2011

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 02-Oct-2012
Hand-picked fruit from four vineyards in the Awatere, Wairau and Southern Valley sub-regions, destemmed and fermented to 14.0%alc., the wine aged 11 months in new and seasoned French oak barrels. Light ruby-red colour with depth and light purple hues on rim. This has a soft, full and deep bouquet of dark raspberry fruit aromas with hints of earth and dark herbs. Oaking is balanced and the fruit quite primary in expression. Medium-bodied, bright and fresh raspberry fruit flavours are supported by supple tannins and lacy acidity. This has a harmonious and balanced mouthfeel which features the aromatic fruit character. The palate has a good textured line which leads to a moderately long finish with light raspberry liqueur flavours. This is a medium-bodied Pinot Noir with up-front raspberry fruitiness and balanced, accessible structure for drinking over the next 4+ years. Match with Asian and Mediterranean fare. 17.5+/20 Oct 2012 RRP $34.90
