Whitehaven Marlborough Chardonnay 2011

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 19-Sep-2012
Mendoza clone fruit from the McLauchlan vineyard on Wratts Road, Rapaura, hand-picked and WBP, indigenous yeast fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 27% new French oak barriques, undergoing batonnage and 50% MLF. Bright, full and even light straw-yellow colour. This has an elegant and very fine, tightly bound nose of aromatic citrus and white stonefruits, along some floral and flinty notes. Medium-bodied, delicate and pure flavours of citrus fruit show with a subtle sweetness and richness. This is very smooth and fine-textured, the barrel-ferment subtly creamy, but well-balanced and cut by fresh, lacy acidity. The acidity carries the flavours to a long, finish with nuances of oak spice and minerally lees. This is an elegant, delicate and stylishly fresh Chardonnay with subtlety. Serve with seafood over the next 3-4+ years. 17.5-/20 Sep 2012 RRP $22.90
