West Brook Marlborough Riesling 2010

Riesling from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 16-Mar-2012
Reckoned  to be the best to date by winemaker James Rowan. Three gold medals. James thinks this may have been harvested a little too early in retrospect, seeing some malic green/apple notes and kero/terpene development suggesting it is "ahead of itself”. Nevertheless refreshing and rich. 11.5% alc., 18 g/L rs, pH 2.7, TA 10.2 g/L Bright, pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues. This has a firm, deep and evenly presented nose of lime fruit, florals, herbs and minerals with subtle toasty notes balanced and interwoven with attractive detail. Off-dry, the palate is full, rich and luscious, quite open and accessible, with succulent lemon and lime flavours and hints of honey that blossom and fill the mouth. Fresh acidity and some fine phenolics provide excellent palate line, leading to a lifted, bright and racy finish with lifted florals and esters. This is a bright, juicy and zesty Riesling that shows plenty of fruit now. This will be enjoyable over the next 6-7 years. 19.0-/20
