West Brook ‘Barrique Fermented’ Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - North Island
Review Date : 06-Nov-2015
A blend of Marlborough and Waimauku fruit, fully barrel fermented to 13.2% alc., the wine aged in 26% new French oak barriques undergoing batonnage and partial MLF. Brilliant light straw-yellow colour with lemon-green hues, paler on rim. The nose is elegantly proportioned and restrained in expression, showing aromas of white stonefruits and citrus fruits with subtle layers of gunflint and minerally reduction, lifted by white floral elements and spiced by nutty and gingery oak. The aromatics show purity and precision. Medium-bodied, this is elegantly concentrated with fine flavours of citrus and white stonefruits entwined with creamy, nutty barrel-ferment suggestions and delicate flinty, mineral detail. The mouthfeel is balanced with fresh acidity and a fine-textured line. The palate has stylish drive and energy, leading to a delicate, clean, crisp finish with subtle stonefruit and mineral hints. This is an elegant, tight and crisp, white stonefruited Chardonnay with delicate nutty and flinty detail. Match with seafood and poultry over the next 3-4+ years. 17.5/20 Nov 2015 RRP $24.00
