Weeping Sands Waiheke Island Tempranillo 2011

Tempranillo from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 24-Sep-2012
Tempranillo fruit from the ‘Obsidian' vineyard fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 33% new French oak. Dark, very deep ruby-red colour with purple hues. This has a sweet fruited nose, very aromatic, showing sweet cedar, butter and spicy red fruits, very harmoniously presented. Medium-full bodied, good deep and concentrated flavours of spicy and cedary red fruits are supported by fine, dry tannins forming significant body and structure. The acidity is soft and the fruit sweetness gives way to dry, grainy tannins on the moderately long finish. This is a medium-bodied varietally expressed Tempranillo with a finely firm, dry textured palate. Match with casseroles and game meat dishes over the next 5-6 years. 17.5+/20 Sep 2012 RRP $35.00
