Weeping Sands Waiheke Island Montepulciano 2011

Montepulciano from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 24-Sep-2012
Full, dark, deep, purple-ruby colour. Concentrated and dense black fruits, cassis, iron and earth combine with minerally aromas on the nose. Medium-full bodied, this has good depth of black fruit flavours along with savoury earth and graphite notes. The palate is robust and well-structured with tannins prevailing, providing plenty of grainy textures to the mouthfeel. The acidity is restrained, and the power and depth of the core drives the flavours to a solid, dry and textured finish with lingering black fruit nuances. This fully-structured Montepulciano will become rounder and develop more savoury interest over the next 6-8 years. Serve with roasted red game meats and hard cheeses. Montepulciano fruit from the ‘Obsidian' vineyard fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 30% new French oak. 18.0/20 Sep 2012 RRP $35.00
