Weeping Sands Waiheke Island Cabernet/Merlot 2008

Cabernet Sauvignon from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 14-Sep-2011
54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec, fermented to 13.75% alc., the wine aged 9 months in mainly seasoned French oak barriques. Very dark, black-hued ruby-red colour, the nose is densely concentrated with solid, ripe, earthy black berry fruits and cassis, the bouquet quite brooding. Full-bodied with very ripe, rich blackcurrant fruit flavours, this has layers of black plums, earth and cedar that emerge. The palate is fully-extracted and the robust structure balances the fruit sweetness. There is good tension from the acidity, and the wine shows the potential to develop well over the next 8-10+ years. 1,600 dozen of this chunky and fulsome made. Match with hearty red meat dishes. 18.5-/20 Sep 2011 RRP $26.50
