Wanaka Road Central Otago Pinot Noir 2009

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 22-May-2013
Fruit from Lowburn, indigenous yeast fermented to 13.5% alc. with approx. 10% whole bunches, the wine aged 11 months in 20% new French oak. Moderately deep, dark ruby-red colour with a lighter garnet edge. The bouquet features concentrated, ripe dark red berry and black cherry aromas and layers of thyme herb, earth and mushroom notes, the nose beginning to soften now. Fullish-bodied, this is weighty and commands presence, with rich, lush and dense fruit flavours of dark red berry fruits, with undergrowth and herbs emerging. This is well-integrated and very harmonious, with supple, rounded tannins and lowish acidity adding to the accessible and fulsome mouthfeel. The wine finish with soft, plump textures and plummy flavours. Just beginning to show some secondary complexities, this is a harmonious rich and plummy Pinot Noir that will match pastas, casseroles and roasted meats over the next 4-5+ years. 18.0+/20 Jun 2012 RRP $29.50
