Wanaka Road Central Otago Pinot Gris 2012

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 22-May-2013
Fruit from the ‘Pagan' vineyard, Gibbston Valley, fermented to 13.5% alc. and 4 g/L rs, a small portion seeing oak and batonnage. Brilliant straw-yellow colour, a little lighter on rim. The nose is elegant, but well-concentrated with white and yellow stonefruit aromas, along with a hop-like herbal edge and complexing lime and citrus elements. A little flinty reduction is noticeable. Dryish to taste, the fruit flavours of stonefruits, herbs and hops are slender in presentation, but have good liveliness and energy. Some alcohol warmth drives the palate and adds a roundness to the mouthfeel. The wine finishes with moderate length and soft stonefruit and herb nuances. This is a light, but distinctively flavoured Pinot Gris with a little alcoholic power in the drive. Match with herb-marinated poultry and pork dishes over the next 3+ years. 17.0-/20 Dec 2012 RRP $24.99
