Walnut Block ‘Nutcracker’ Marlborough Pinot Noir 2013

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 12-Mar-2015
Hand-picked fruit, clones 115, 667, 5 and 777 from the Southern Valleys and Rapaura, destemmed and indigenous yeast fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine spending 10-15 days total on skins and aged 12 months in 30% new French oak barriques. Dark, deep, ruby-red colour with lighter purple hues on rim. The nose is fresh with bright primary fruit aromas of dark raspberries interwoven with soft red plum and subtle herbal notes. Some waxy, nutty oak elements add individual detail. Medium-full bodied, rich and plush ripe raspberry fruit flavours feature with good depth and intensity. Some herbal notes and waxy, nutty oak and resinous suggestions underline the fruitiness. The palate follows a fine-textured, elegant core with supple tannins and acid freshness lending vitality and energy. The structure carries the wine to a long, lingering dry finish with notes of raspberry liqueur. This is a rich and dark raspberry fruited Pinot Noir with a plush and supple mouthfeel and fine structure. Match with duck, pork and lamb dishes over the next 5 years. Certified BioGro organic. 17.5+/20 Mar 2015 RRP $40.00
