Walnut Block ‘Nutcracker’ Marlborough Chardonnay 2013

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 12-Mar-2015
Bright, light golden-hued straw-yellow colour with some depth. This has a full and voluminous nose with prominent oxidative and nutty aromas entwined with citrus and yellow stonefruits, mealy elements, and a concentrated and detailed core with nutty, smoky oak and lemon curd MLF nuances. Medium-full bodied, rich and fleshy, accessible and open flavours of yellow stonefruits are layered with complexing nutty and oxidative flavours. Oak toast, mealy and nutty notes unfold, adding to the rich mouthfeel and fine, creamy textures. The palate is underlined by discreet acidity that lends a gentle drive, and the wine leads to a long, nutty, oxidative finish. This is a rich and accessible Chardonnay with layers of stonefruit flavours complexed by nutty, oxidative and mealy detail. Match with roasted poultry and pork dishes over the next 4 years. Hand-picked fruit from 18 y.o. Mendoza vines, WBP and indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 14.1% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 25% new French oak on lees without batonnage, but undergoing 100% MLF. Certified BioGro organic. 18.0-/20 Mar 2015 RRP $30.00
