Waitapu Estate ‘Reef Point’ ‘Special Reserve’ Syrah 2009

Syrah from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 04-May-2014
Dark-hearted garnet-red colour with some bricking on edge. This has a full, solid bouquet with lifted aromas of well-integrated secondary fruit, showing savoury earth, dried herbs, brown spices, black pepper and cedary oak. Medium-full bodied, soft and rich flavours of black pepper, earth and oak cedar form a harmonious amalgam. The flavours are savoury and show maturity and development, but there are still fine-grained tannins and light acidity providing support, drive and line. The mouthfeel is supple and smooth flowing, and the flavours lead to a lingering, dry, cedary finish. This is a soft, mellow and fully-developed Syrah with richness and integration. Match with casseroles and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 3+ years. Syrah fruit fermented to 12.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 3 y.o. French oak. 16.5+/20 May 2014 RRP $35.00
