Waitapu Estate ‘Reef Point’ ‘Special Reserve’ Pinotage 2010

Pinotage from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 04-May-2014
Pinotage fruit fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 3 y.o. French oak. Very full, even, black-hued ruby-red colour. The bouquet is softly concentrated with lifted aromas of black berry fruits, earth and minerals, well-entwined with layers of game and cedar nuances. Medium-full bodied, a tightly bound and firm core of lifted black fruits features with richness and sweetness. A suggestion of secondary game and dried herb detail unfolds, adding interest. The fruit is balanced and supported by fine-grained, firm, underlying tannins. The mouthfeel is fulsome, and has energy and freshness from the acidity, leading to a dry, cedary finish with spicy oak. This is a fulsome, fresh, black-fruited Pinotage with a firm tannin core and line. Serve with slow-cooked game meat over the next 5-6 years. 17.5-/20 RRP $35.00
