Waitapu Estate ‘Intrepid’ Syrah/Tempranillo 2013

Blended Red from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 11-Jun-2014
50% Syrah and 50% Tempranillo, fermented to 12.5% alc., the wine aged in oak for 12 months. Full, dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red, youthful in appearance. This has a fresh bouquet of vibrant black and red berry fruits with an amalgam of black pepper, raspberries and lifted red florals, the aromatics quite primary, with notes of red liquorice and a touch of reduction? Medium-full bodied, lively and juicy flavours of dark red berry fruit, raspberries, spices and liquorice are the feature on palate. The fruit is underlined by very fine-grained, near powdery tannins, and flows with fresh, lively acidity in support. The wine carries to a long, lingering finish with rich fruit nuances and fine textxtures. This is a vibrantly fruity, juicy Syrah and Tempranillo blend, with refined extraction. Match with roasted red meats and hard cheeses over the next 5-6+ years. 17.5/20 May 2014 RRP $29.95
